The Koine Greek term "diatheke" is translated into English as "covenant" or "testament".

1242 diatheke {dee-ath-ay'-kay}
from 1303; TDNT - 2:106,157; n f
AV - covenant 20, testament 13; 33
1) a disposition, arrangement, of any sort, which one wishes to
be valid, the last disposition which one makes of his earthly
possessions after his death, a testament or will
2) a compact, a covenant, a testament
2a) God's covenant with Noah, etc.

The one true God of the scriptures revealed Himself through all of His prophets and witnesses, through a 1600 year record, that His people have followed through two covenants for 3500 years. The first covenant was with His chosen people the Jews, and within the record of that covenant, a new covenant was prophesied of by the prophet Jeremiah as discussed here. The new covenant included Gentiles - included all people - in God's plan of salvation. Jesus Christ fulfilled that new covenant as revealed through the testimony of His New Testament witnesses.

From Halley's Bible Handbook:

"The Four Gospels

The Four Gospels are, by all odds, the Most Important part of the Bible: more important than all the rest of the Bible put together: for we could better afford to be without the knowledge of everything else than to be without the knowledge of Christ.

Bible books that precede are Anticipatory, and those that follow are Explanatory, of the Hero of the Four Gospels."

The Gospel books are believed to be organized in the Bible in the order in which they were written, though some suggest that Mark may have written before Matthew.

Matthew - as early as 50 AD but prior to 70 AD
Mark - 55 AD but prior to 70 AD
Luke - 63 AD or earlier
John - 80s to 90s
Acts - penned in about 63 AD

The New Testament letters are not organized chronologically. It is helpful to read them in the approximate order in which they were written.
