THE COMFORTER - PARACLETE
A printable foldable tract is available for this subject at this link.

Some of Muslims suggest that the term "Comforter" in the Gospel - translated from the Koine Greek "paraclete" or "parakle-tos" - is a reference to Muhammad, who was to come over 500 years after the New Testament was penned. Let's investigate that view in the light of the scriptures that are supposed to support it.

Beginning with Strong's definitions for "Comforter" (G3875) from the Koine Greek.....
"parakle-tos":
1. summoned, called to one's side, esp. called to one's aid
   A. one who pleads another's cause before a judge, a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant, an advocate
   B. one who pleads another's cause with one, an intercessor
      i. of Christ in his exaltation at God's right hand, pleading with God the Father for the pardon of our sins
   C. in the widest sense, a helper, succourer, aider, assistant
      i. of the Holy Spirit destined to take the place of Christ with the apostles (after his ascension to the Father), to lead them to a deeper knowledge of the gospel truth, and give them divine strength needed to enable them to undergo trials and persecutions on behalf of the divine kingdom

The "trinity" in Christianity is composed of YHWH the Father, our intercessor Jesus Christ (as prophesied), and the Holy Spirit.
The trinity of Islam would be composed of Muhammad's "Allah", Muhammad as intercessor, and Allah's spirit.

Muhammad as the self-proclaimed intercessor of Islam is explored on the intercession page. It would seem from the definition of the Koine Greek term "paraclete", that for a Muslim to believe that Muhammad was the Comforter, intercessor, "paraclete", assistant or helper, might be to commit Muhammad's only unforgivable sin of shirk. Yet no shortage of Muslims actually try to claim that Muhammad was the Comforter.

The term "Comforter" is used four times in the New Testament where it is specifically and unequivocally defined:

John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Yet on the internet and in youtube videos, regarding the Comforter and Paraclete, Islam's dissimulators don't usually get around to quoting that verse! But as anyone that has the capacity to be honest with themselves can readily see, all the idle speculation and vain argument regarding Muhammad being the Comforter can be set aside through that single verse, though there are many more reasons that we will explore.

The term "Spirit of truth" is used three times in the Gospel of John, and once in John's first Epistle. The first use in the Gospel of John is in this passage which begins:

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it]. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

What are those commandments that the Messiah gave us?

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment. 31 And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Mohammed's counter-commandment Sura 8:12 I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them

Both terms occur in this portion: 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him:.....

Jesus is speaking to His disciples. How could Mohammed "abide with" the disciples for ever, 500 years before Mohammed was ever born?

The Comforter "abideth with" God's people forever.  Those of us that are "born again" and in the kingdom of God receive the "Spirit of truth", while those that are of the world cannot receive, see or know Him.
Jesus' sheep know His voice, receive Him, and are guided by the Holy Spirit.
The verse continues:

.....but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Jesus is talking to His disciples. How could they know the Spirit of truth, if it was Mohammed, 500 years before he was ever born?
How could Mohammed "dwelleth with" the disciples 500 years before he was born?
How could Mohammed be "in" the disciples at all, let alone 500 years before he was born? We can clearly see the whole notion of Mohammed in the role of the Spirit of truth is out of the question..
In 1Corinthians we learn that the Holy Spirit is GOD IN US.

1Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1Cr 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Christians ARE the "temple of the Holy Ghost" and the "temple of God", individually, and corporately as the Body of Christ.  This is the temple that Jesus said He could build in three days, which he did through His crucifixion, death and resurrection.
How could Mohamed be IN someone? Is "Allah" a triune God too?

Continuing with our passage: 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

So if Jesus wasn't going to leave His people comfortless, does it make sense that He would then make us wait 500 years until Mohamed came along, to comfort us?

Next verse: 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

So the Father is IN us through the Spirit of His Son:

John 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] unto you: as [my] Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on [them], and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Here's a day in which even the lost will know:

Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

But on that day it will be too late, for those who deny the Son of God, to unrepentant.

John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Remembering, Mark 12:30 ... thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart ... 31 ... Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

John 14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

The Father and the Son will make their "abode" with those who keep His words. They will dwell IN US. We will be their home.  Christians ARE the "temple of God" and the "temple of the Holy Ghost". Regarding the Father and the Son:

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].

Yet Muhammad said Sura 9.30 The Jews call 'Uzair a son of God, and the Christians call Christ the Son of God. That is a saying from their mouth; (In this) they but imitate what the Unbelievers of old used to say. God's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!

John 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

Earlier in this book we learned about the Word:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

And Muhammad Sura 112:3: He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;

John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being [yet] present with you. 26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Here John specifically defines the "Comforter" as "the Holy Ghost".  The masculine gender is assigned because the Comforter is GOD IN us.  It all fits together perfectly.
Regarding learning through the spirit:

1Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

John 15:25 But [this cometh to pass], that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

The prince of this world is Satan.  The world was given into his hand at Adam's fall. That's why God's people are in the Kingdom of God, and are not of this world.

John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Perhaps bit of a stretch to describe a man that advanced taqiyya, or lying in the way of Allah, as a "Sprit of truth"?

1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

That's why those that are not of God desire to conquer this world - Satan's world - by the sword in a 1300 year long effort to impose Sharia law on all mankind. While Christians seek to conquer this world with the Sword of the Spirit - God's Holy Word.

John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Sura 9.30 The Jews call 'Uzair a son of God, and the Christians call Christ the Son of God. That is a saying from their mouth; (In this) they but imitate what the Unbelievers of old used to say. God's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!

The God of Islam, curses the Christians and Jews. How could this be the same God, unless He were schizophrenic and bi-polar?

Sura 19:88 They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!" 89 Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!

Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Obviously one must make a choice. The God of the Christians and the Jews, or the one of Islam that curses the Christians and the Jews.

4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Hadith: “Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh servant of Allah, oh Muslim, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!”

It is important to understand the origins of Islamic tradition. Please see the website The History of Mecca for more.

The Holy Ghost is made manifest in Jesus' name (URL)

An argument cannot be made that Muhammad is the "Comforter" since the scriptures specifically state that the Comforter is the Holy Spirit, yet in spite of that unequivocal scripture, some sorely deluded folks argue on, claiming that since the Holy Spirit was already in the world it couldn't be yet to come in the future. However the Old Testament scriptures use the term "Spirit of God" as a manifestation of the Spirit in old covenant saints (Jews). The following verse seems to clarify a distinction, between the Spirit of God as manifest in faithful Jews that may remain blinded to the Gospel, and Christians that are filled with the Holy Ghost/Spirit:

1Corinthians 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

It isn't until the Messiah is made manifest to the world that the "Holy Spirit" is revealed:

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

"The Holy Ghost was not yet given" since Jesus was the Comforter when He was in the world:

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Another Comforter that was sent specifically in Jesus' name:

John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Then later after Jesus was resurrected from the dead, given His glorified body and eventually left this world, His people were filled with the Holy Ghost/Spirit:

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
